Occupational Therapists

Occupational therapists are allied health professionals who provide care to patients by assessing for and providing mobility and everyday living aids that meet each individual's physical and lifestyle needs.

The occupational therapist is responsible for:

  • Assessing the patient's home environment and assisting them in the selection of mobility and everyday living aids to improve their independence and quality of life.
  • Guiding the patient through the application process for the council's disability grant to make modifications to their home.
  • Treating the client through education and practice of safe transfers, care and maintenance of their mobility aids.
  • Making necessary modifications to mobility aids, reviewing and re-evaluating their suitability as required.

The occupational therapist assesses each individual's functional capacity, their environment and their needs. Individualised treatment is provided to maximise the function of each client in the everyday activities that are important to them, thus improving their quality of life.

Mobility Aids

Ability Matters provides you with an extensive selection of products to aid people in their everyday lives from easy stowaway wheelchairs, perfect for days out, to more robust wheelchairs and scooters.

We have a wide selection of rollaters and walkers that provide safe and stable support for people in their homes or out and about.

We supply aids for everyday living including long handled shoe horns, dressing aids, easi-grip scissors, combi reachers to name a few, that all help make day to day living that little bit easier. We provide on-site physiotherapy and occupational therapy services, offering the complete rehabilitation experience under one roof.

If you need help modifying your home to improve the quality of your life, our occupational therapist can carry out an on site assessment and guide you through the disability grant application process.
