Home Assessments

On occasion home/house adaptations may be necessary to improve the home environment to ensure someone can remain in their home for as long as possible.

Benefits - Home Assessments

  • A home assessment allows the therapist to assess your level of function in your daily tasks – such as cooking, dressing and eating, in your own environment.
  • Appropriate individualised adaptations can be made
  • Alternative ways of doing these tasks can be discussed and trialled.
  • Improves your ability to function in safety around the home.
  • Not all adaptations need to be “major” - minor adaptations such as grab rails, adapted cutlery etc. can make a positive difference.

Local Authority grants may be available if you need to make adaptations to your home: Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability (HAG). Our Occupational Therapist can provide a comprehensive on site assessment in collaboration with the client/carer/family and issue a report detailing the adaptations that are required to the Local Authority. We can also offer help with completing the grant application form if necessary.
