Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists are allied health professionals who provide care...
Home Assessments
On occasion home/house adaptations may be necessary to improve the home environment to ensure someone can remain in their home for as long as possible.
Benefits - Home Assessments
- A home assessment allows the therapist to assess your level of function in your daily tasks – such as cooking, dressing and eating, in your own environment.
- Appropriate individualised adaptations can be made
- Alternative ways of doing these tasks can be discussed and trialled.
- Improves your ability to function in safety around the home.
- Not all adaptations need to be “major” - minor adaptations such as grab rails, adapted cutlery etc. can make a positive difference.
Local Authority grants may be available if you need to make adaptations to your home: Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability (HAG). Our Occupational Therapist can provide a comprehensive on site assessment in collaboration with the client/carer/family and issue a report detailing the adaptations that are required to the Local Authority. We can also offer help with completing the grant application form if necessary.
There is always an answer!
More information on Local Authority Grants can be found on the Citizen's Information website, click here.
Daily Living Aids
Our smaller daily living aids are just as useful as our larger items and can make life easier for those with sensory impairments, physical or mental health difficulties.
“Magiplug” is a heat sensitive bath or sink plug that prevents overflow by a pressure release mechanism and prevents scalding by a visible alteration in colour.
The “Combi-Reacher” (26” or 32”) features a magnetic tip, shoehorn and rubber lined jaws for a secure grip.
The 360 degree revolving head allows the client to avoid wrist rotation.
The wide 4 finger trigger facilitates a comfortable grip.
